I have been in contact with Mr. Fisher of the Pacific Gas and Electric Connpany regarding the nnatter of the setting of PG&E poles along the south property line of the Cannpbell Union School District' s Rolling Hills School located at the corner of Pollard Road and More Avenue in Cannpbell. It is nny understanding that Mr. Fisher will approve the placing of the poles just inside or along the north side of the new cennent walk providing the city of Cannpbell grants to the PG&E a public utility easennent of five feet, which property has been dedicated to the city of Cannpbell by the Cannpbell Union School District. The Cannpbell Union School District will then erect its fence just south of the necessary anchors for the above nnentioned poles, and it is nny understanding that these anchors will be on the north line of this five foot easennent. Hawk Traffic Engineer 75 North Central Avenue Campbell, California Dear Myron: This will acknowledge your letter of August 20 and confirm our conversation of yesterday afternoon. As per our conversation I again checked yesterday evening, and the city of Saratoga and Santa Clara County have taken care of a walking shoulder along Pollard on the north side as faras the County is concerned to the bridge, and from the bridge on the north side of Pollard to Quito and down Quito on the east side to a point approximately midway between Ravenwood Drive and Marshall Lane at which point it meets the widened road. Regarding item #1 of crosswalks, this is fine; and item #3 is fine as far as we are concerned because the street improvement will be completed approxi- mately ten days before school opening. Therefore, we assume that the yellow cros swalks will be there at that point before school opens. But I am a little concerned about item #2 and wonder when this capping and new sidewalk on the east side of Virginia will take place. My field study of this morning shows sidewalks from Century Drive to the bridge on the west side of Virginia; sidewalks on both sides of Budd Avenue to the bridge; sidewalks on Jeffery and Budd, and Budd and Virginia, and sidewalks the complete length of Virginia on the east side to Waldo Road. It is true that on the west side of Virginia there is approximately 1/10 of a mile with no sidewalk to Hazelwood, andof cour se there is no sidewalk from Hazelwood to Hazel Avenue; however, the children do and must walk along this unpaved shoulder and there will be a great number of children walking down Hazel especially and quite a few down Hazelwood. Regardless of sidewalks, curbs and gutters, they must cross Virginia at Waldo to get to school. While I can understand your concern of not wanting to paint lines twice, it still seems to me that for the safety of the children, the amount of paint and time involved is negligible compared with what public opinion would be should there be an accident on this corner without a cros swalk. r · a Mr. Myron D. Hawk -2- August 21, 1963 Therefore, I am again urging that the crosswalk on the north side of Budd Avenue and on Budd Avenue on the east side of Virginia be done at the same time that the crosswalk on Virginia Avenue on the north side of Waldo is painted.
