By this letter I am suggesting that this period be six months. If no problems present themselves, I will then petition for conformation that this condition be approved on a perminent basis. Although it is contrary to departmental policy we see no obvious or immediate reason why we can not leave the drive- way approach as is, at least, for an interim period. If during this trail period no pro.~ems occur we will consider leaving it in its existing state. All bonds shall remain in full force and effect during the term of this interim period. Helms Acting Director of Public Works City of Campbell 75 North Central Avenue Campbell, Ca. 95008 ATTENTION: Mr. Lawrence C. Versaw BMH___ FT~_ RLD__ _ _ FILE t RE: Midas Muffler Shop, 1236 White Oaks Drive Dear Mr. Helms: It has been brought to my attention that the Department of Public Works is requesting that the drive approach between the Jack-in-the-Box and Midas Muffler Shop be closed down to approximately 35 or 36 feet in width. I would like for you to reconsider this request for the following reasons: 1. The flow of traffic through this driveway to the Jack-in-the-Box is primarily in, except for the people that park and eat on the premises and then they possibly exit through this driveway. The flow of traffic to the Midas Muffler Shop will be both in and out through this driveway. With a very narrow drive approach I foresee many minor traffic accidents. 2. I believe with the wider drive approach we could work out large painted arrows on the asphalt which will help direct the traffic and minimize the congestion and accidents. I would like to suggest that we try this approach to see if it works; should it not work, then we could make the determination to close the drive approach down to the 35 or 36 foot width. Please advise as to your thoughts or perhaps we could get together for a discussion. Sincerely, r l \ ~ ,.Ov~1\M Warren G.
