RESOLUTION NO. 10697
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL ENDORSING PROJECT CORNERSTONE'S
"DEVELOPMENTAL ASSETS" APPROACH
WHEREAS, Project Cornerstone is a County-wide collaborative working to mobilize our
community to value young people and assure that they thrive; and
WHEREAS, Project Cornerstone's approach is based on nationwide research that has identified
a set of experiences and values called "Developmental Assets" that provide a foundation for
children and youth to grow up caring and responsible; and
WHEREAS, the City of Campbell acknowledges that the developmental assets are essential
building blocks for child and youth development; and
WHEREAS, the asset approach encourages adults and youth to work together to address some
of the major issues facing communities and also creates public awareness of the positive
contributions that young people make in our city; and
WHEREAS, the Council School Liaison Subcommittee has met with the Campbell Union School
District (CUSD) about Project Cornerstone and generated ideas for collaboration around it; and
WHEREAS, the City of Campbell is interested in working with Project Cornerstone and the
CUSD to educate staff and community partners about the value of assets in their programs,
services and outreach efforts to the community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Campbell endorses
the "developmental assets" approach as a helpful tool and framework for youth-related polices,
programs and services and will work with Project Cornerstone, the Campbell Union School
District, and others, beginning with items noted in Exhibit A, to promote it in our organizations
and the community in order to help create an asset-rich environment for all children and youth in
Campbell.

Project Cornerstone Initiatives -
The City will work collaboratively with the Campbell Union School District to promote
the developmental assets of Project Cornerstone. Project Cornerstone is the Santa Clara
County-wide effort that aims to ensure that every aspect of our diverse community
understand and embrace the fact that interacting with young people is important - and
that every interaction makes a difference.
Specific actions to be taken bv the Citv include:
~ Have a presentation at a Council meeting and adopt a resolution by the City Council
supporting Project Cornerstone
~ Put an article in the Profile/Activity Guide on developmental assets
~ Put a link to Project Cornerstone on the City's website
~ Put information on Project Cornerstone and developmental assets on cable TV
~ Encourage the Library and Chamber of Commerce to engage with Project
Cornerstone
~ Place posters about Project Cornerstone at the Community Center and Adult Center.
Actions to be taken bv the CUSD include:
~ Organize Cornerstone in each K - 8 school.
~ Dedicate District leadership to the implementation of Cornerstone
~ Develop student leaderships teams, whose work focuses on the powerful assets of
Cornerstone.
~ Hold Parent Cornerstone meetings and trainings.
~ Hold a student Cornerstone leadership conference
Actions to be taken ;ointlv with the Citv and CUSD include:
~ Facilitate a training for certain staff of both organizations on developmental assets
and how they can impact them
~ Facilitate a training for community leaders (commissioners, Chamber board, PT A,
etc.) on developmental assets
~ Develop and market a parent education class at the Community Center
