RESOLUTION NO. 10717
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR TO SUBMIT
APPLICATIONS FOR SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL (SRTS)
FUNDS FOR THE HAMILTON AVENUE/PHOENIX DRIVE PROJECT AND THE
POLLARD ROAD BIKE LANE PROJECT
WHEREAS, a significant number of Payne Elementary School students walk or ride
bicycles across Hamilton Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the Hamilton Avenue/Phoenix Drive Signalization Project involves the
design and construction of a traffic signal and curb ramps; and
WHEREAS, the preliminary cost estimate for the Hamilton Avenue/Phoenix Drive
Signalization Project is $380,000 for the project; and
WHEREAS, a significant number of Rolling Hills Middle School students walk or ride
bicycles along Pollard Road; and
WHEREAS, the Pollard Road Bike Lane Project involves the design and construction of
bike lanes on both sides of Pollard Road; and
WHEREAS, the preliminary cost estimate for the Pollard Road Bike Lane Project is
$385,000 ; and
WHEREAS, the Safe Routes to Schools (SRTS) grant program is a federally-funded
program administered by Caltrans to encourage construction of bicycle and pedestrian
safety projects; and
WHEREAS, both projects would encourage walking and bicycling and are therefore
eligible for SRTS funding; and
WHEREAS, the ability to obtain SRTS funding approval is enhanced by endorsement of
the project by elected officials, school officials, and police departments; and
WHEREAS, the SRTS grant program requires no local match for the City of Campbell.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Campbell
that the Public Works Director is hereby authorized to execute and file Safe Routes to
Schools grant applications for funding under the Safe Routes to Schools Grant Program
in the amounts of $380,000 for the Hamilton Avenue/Phoenix Drive Signalization Project
and $385,000 for the Pollard Road Bike Lane Project.
