BEING A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CAMPBELL APPROVING OF A BUSINESS LICENSE AMNESTY PROGRAM AND WAIVER
OF PENALTIES FOR UP TO THREE YEARS
WHEREAS, Title 5 of the City's Municipal Code establishes the City's authority to regulate
businesses doing business in the City including procedures for issuing business licenses and
payment of fees; and,
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the City to ensure maximum compliance with the City
Ordinance for registration of businesses including payment of required fees; and,
WHEREAS, the City has engaged the services of a consultant to assist in the identification
and notification of businesses located in the City that may be operating without a proper business
license; and,
WHEREAS, it is believed that a business license amnesty program may provide sufficient
incentive for non-compliant businesses to register with the City and obtain a business license; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council finds the amount of forgone revenues from a one-time waiver of
penalties on business license fees will be exceeded by the amount of new annual revenue that will
be generated as a result of business compliance, thereby, creating a net benefit to the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Campbell that a
business license amnesty program be initiated to ensure that all required businesses are
registered with the City and have paid all applicable fees.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that businesses operating in the City without a current business
license be granted a waiver of penalties for a period of 30 days from the time the City notifies the
businesses that they do not have a valid license.
