CC Resolution 10739 RESOLUTION NO. 10739 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL HONORING JEANETTE WATSON ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT FROM THE CAMPBELL CITY COUNCIL WHEREAS, on December 11, 2006, former Mayor Jeanette Watson officiated her last City Council meeting after 21 continuous years of service on the Campbell City Council WHEREAS, Jeanette Watson began her public service in Campbell 40 years ago when she founded the "Campbell Citizens for Beautification" and served as its Vice-Chair in 1967 and Chair in 1968-69; WHEREAS, Mrs. Watson is the authority on Campbell's history-having written a 442 page book entitled Campbell, the Orchard City that documents the Campbell family migration from Scotland to the Santa Clara Valley in 1846; WHEREAS, this historical book continues to serve as an invaluable reference tool for City staff and residents; WHEREAS, Mrs. Watson's progressive leadership and initiative is evidenced by her "breaking the glass ceiling" and by her track record of "firsts": First woman awarded Campbell Citizen of the Year (1968); first woman elected to the Campbell City Council (1985); and first woman Mayor of Campbell (1988); WHEREAS, she founded the City's Civic Improvement Commission in 1972 and served on this advisory body until 1985; WHEREAS, Mrs. Watson has served as founder and past President of the Campbell Historical Museum Association, past President and Boardmember of the Campbell Chamber of Commerce, past Boardmember of the West Valley-Mission College Foundation; WHEREAS, she was instrumental in planning for, and helping with, the City's 50th Anniversary ofIncorporation community celebration in 2002; and WHEREAS, a special retirement dinner reception will be held in her honor at the Orchard City Banquet Hall, Campbell Community Center, on February 23, 2007. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL YED that the City Council and staff of the City of Campbell express their deepest appreciation to Jeanette Watson for her years of public service to the residents, businesses, and visitors of the City of Campbell, and wish her well on her retirement.
