RESOLUTION NO. 10092
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
HONORING SUSAN FULLER ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AS
COUNTY LIBRARIAN
WHEREAS, Susan Fuller obtained her Masters degree in Library and Information Science from
the University of California at Berkeley in 1965;
WHEREAS, she began her professional career as a Children's Librarian with Santa Clara County
Library working at the Cupertino, Mi1pitas, and Los Altos libraries;
WHEREAS, she was promoted to Branch Supervisor and was in charge at the Mi1pitas,
Saratoga, and Cupertino libraries;
WHEREAS, Ms. Fuller has served as Santa Clara County's County Librarian since 1985; and
WHEREAS, she was named "Librarian ofthe Year" for 1998 by Library Journal, the premier
national journal for libraries;
WHEREAS, Ms. Fuller was also recognized as 'Outstanding Public Administrator for 1995' by
the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the American Society for Public Administrators in recognition
of her leadership in the development of the Santa Clara County Library Service Area Joint
Powers Authority, nominated for this award by a nine City Managers representing every City in
the Santa Clara County service area;
WHEREAS, she was named California Library Association's Member of the Year' in 1997,
being "recognized for her work on the controversial and timely issue of Internet access for
children and adults;"
WHEREAS, under her leadership, the Santa Clara County Library has gone from circulating
2,500,000 items a year in 1985 to just under 8,500,000 in 2001.
WHEREAS, the Santa Clara County Library was named the #1 public library in America,
serving populations between 250,000 and 500,000 citizens in 2000 by American Libraries, a
monthly publication of the American Library Association;
WHEREAS, Ms. Fuller has attended the City's Civic Improvement Commission meetings since
her appointment as County Librarian and has provided this advisory body with informative
reports and updates regarding the activities and important issues of, and pertaining to, the Santa
Clara Library system.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council and staff of the City of
Campbell express their deepest appreciation to Susan Fuller for her years of public service to the
County of Santa Clara and to the City of Campbell, and wish her well on her retirement.
