RESOLUTION NO. 9991
BEING A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CAMPBELL CONGRATULATING "CAMPBELL EXPRESS"
ON BEING SELECTED "BUSINESS OF THE YEAR"
WHEREAS, the Campbell Express, began publication as a community newspaper in 1956 first
serving the Cambrian area and subsequently moving to Campbell in the 1980's; and
WHEREAS, the Hanchett family has been in the newspaper business for over 35 years
purchased the Campbell Express in 1989;
WHEREAS, Kathryn Hanchett McKaig, daughter of Ross and Bonny Hanchett, has literally
been in the newspaper all of her life and serves as the Publisher of the Campbell Express; and
WHEREAS, Kathryn Hanchett McKaig, is active in the Campbell community including the
Downtown Campbell Business Association (DCBA), volunteers at various Chamber of
Commerce events including the annual Prune Festival and Oktoberfest, and serves on the
Campbell Chamber of Commerce and the Campbell Museum Foundation; and
WHEREAS, the Campbell Express prides itself on its involvement in the Campbell community
and the coverage of local news and events it provides to the citizens of Campbell; and
WHEREAS, staff members of the Campbell Express are all long time Campbell residents
including Sally Howe, Editor, known for her fair and even news coverage; Nancy Whitney,
Advertising Manager, who serves advertising clients efficiently; and Darlene Abundiz, Office
Manager, who is the "glue" that keeps the newspaper together.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Campbell City Council congratulates the
Campbell Express on being selected "Business of the Year" and recognizes the many
contributions the Campbell Express has made to the Campbell community.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 19th day of March, 2002 by the following roll call vote:
