CC Resolution 10798 RESOLUTION NO. 10798 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL AUTHORIZING THE ACTING COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE BAY AREA GREEN BUSINESS PROGRAM TO ACHIEVE GREEN BUSINESS CERTIFICATION FOR THE CITY OF CAMPBELL COMMUNITY CENTER WHEREAS, the City of Campbell recognizes and values the importance of greening City services as a means of contributing to the environmental health; and WHEREAS, the Bay Area Green Business Program recognizes voluntary environmental improvement of businesses and government agencies' operations; and WHEREAS, approximately 1,000 businesses and public agencies have been approved since 1996, and the participation in the program has increased by more than thirty-five percent each year for the last three years; and WHEREAS, the Green Business Application and checklist is the standard required for certification; and WHEREAS, various mitigating measures for operations are included within the Application and Checklist, and the program requires that a minimum amount of those measures be implemented; and WHEREAS, mitigating measures fall under the following four categories: Solid Waste Reduction & Recycling, Energy Conservation, Water Conservation, and Pollution Prevention. WHEREAS, staff review of the Green Business Application and Checklist showed that the Campbell community Center already has implemented and outperformed the required amount of conservation and pollution mitigation measures; and WHEREAS, the Green Program also requires the adoption of other related environmental and business practices and policies in addition to the required conservation and pollution measures; and WHEREAS, the Green Business Program's additional measures include the City performing an assessment of solid wastes, conducting energy and water use audits, assessing the facility to identify potential sources of pollutants and ways to reduce them, and adopting other more general policy measures; and WHEREAS, those more general policy measures include the tracking and posting of water, energy, and hazardous waste generation, as well as providing incentives and training opportunities to encourage management and employee participation in the Green Business Program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Campbell that the Acting Community Development Director is hereby authorized to submit an application to the Bay Area Green Business Program to achieve Green Business Certification for the City of Campbell Community Center; PASSED AND ADOPTED this 7th day of August, 2007, by the following roll call vote: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: Kennedy, Hernandez, Low, Burr, Furtado NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS None ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: None ~ L\.~
