CC Resolution 9847 ~ RESOLUTION NO. 9847 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF C MPBELL AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR TO SU MIT AN APPLICATION FOR SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOLS (S S) FUNDS FOR THE WESTMONT AVENUE IMPROVEMENT P OJECT WHEREAS, the City Council has authorized the submittal of a Transportation Development Act Article 3 (TDA) grant application for Fiscal Year (FY) 200 /02 to the Valley Transportation Authority; and WHEREAS, the TDA grant application for FY 2001102 designat s $39,992.18 of guaranteed TDA funds for the Westmont Avenue Improvement Project (Project; and WHEREAS, the Project entails the design and construction of sidewa k improvements, pedestrians and bicycle crossing improvements, on-street improvements, nd traffic signal installation; WHEREAS, the preliminary engineer's estimate for the Project is $1 m llion; and WHEREAS, the Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S) grant program a federally-funded program administered by Caltrans to encourage construction of bicycle and pe strian safety and traffic calming projects; and WHEREAS, the Project would relieve congestion on Westmont Aven e and encourage walking and bicycling along this street, and is therefore eligible for SR2S fundi g; and WHEREAS, the ability to obtain SR2S funding approval is enhanced b endorsement of the project by elected officials, school officials, and police departments; and WHEREAS, the SR2S grant program requires a ten percent ($50,000 local match and allows a maximum federal reimbursement of $450,000. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the ity of Campbell that the Public Works Director is hereby authorized to execute and file a Safe outes to Schools grant application for funding under the Safe Routes to Schools Grant Program in the amount of $500,000 for the Westmont Avenue Improvement Project; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Campbell will provid $50,000 in local matching funds; and .. J BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Ca pbell shall solicit letters of support for the Project from the San Jose City Council, Campbell U ion High School District officials, Westmont High School officials, and the San Jose Police Dep rtment.
