RESOLUTION NO. 9814
BEING A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL HONORING
DANIEL E. FURTADO AS 2000 CITIZEN OF THE YEA
WHEREAS, Dan Furtado has been selected by the Campbell Chamber of Comm rce as 2000 Citizen
of the Year and will be honored at "Celebrate Campbell" on March 24, 2001; an
WHEREAS, Dan Furtado was born and raised in Campbell, attended Rosemar School, Campbell
Grammar School, and Campbell High School, and subsequently graduated from an Jose State; and
WHEREAS, Dan Furtado graduated from the University of California's School f Pharmacy in San
Francisco, and then entered active duty in the U.S. Army and served t 0 years as Chief,
Pharmacology Section, U.S. Army Medical Field Service School at Ft. Sam Hou ton in Texas; and
WHERAS, following his discharge from the army, Dan Furtado continued is affiliation as a
Reserve Officer and currently is a Commander of all the Army Reserve medical nits in the states of
Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, and is the senior-ranking pharmacist of the Army with over 35
years of service and one of its senior colonels; and
WHEREAS, Dan Furtado has a long and worthwhile record of volunteer wor beginning in 1985
when he was appointed to serve on the City's Civic Improvement Commission, a d has subsequently
served on committees to aid youth, promote the library, health, and cultural affa rs, and is a charter
life member of the Campbell Historical Museum Association; and
WHEREAS, Dan Furtado was elected to serve on the Campbell City Council in 1996 and served as
Mayor in 1999, and has exhibited a high degree of public responsibility and se ved the citizens of
Campbell with commitment and dedication.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of ampbell recognizes
and honors Daniel E. Furtado on being named 2000 Campbell's Citizen of the Y ar in recognition of
his unselfish service to the Campbell community and his continued involve ent in community,
business and governmental affairs.
