RESOLUTION NO. 9813
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMPBELL
AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF A MEMORANDUM OF UNDER TANDING TO
STUDY THE FEASIBILITY OF DEVELOPING A UNION PACIFIC RAIL OAD TRAIL
WHEREAS, the Union Pacific Railroad Trail (Trail) is a route that runs t rough Santa Clara
County; and
WHEREAS, the Trail is included as a Regional Trail Route in the Santa
Master Plan, as a Proposed Trail in the Santa Clara County General Plan, and as
Corridor in the Santa Clara County Congestion Management Program; and

WHEREAS, the Trail is proposed for inclusion in the Valley Transportatio Plan 2020 of the
Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority; and
WHEREAS, the cities of Cupertino, San Jose, and Saratoga, the Town of os Gatos, and the
Campbell Bicycle Advisory Committee are interested in developing the Trail for b h recreational and
commuting opportunities within and adjacent to the Union Pacific Railroad Compan right-of-way; and
WHEREAS, on April 18, 2000, the City Council of the City of Campbell assed and adopted
Resolution 9671 supporting the creation of a task force of citizens from the c ties of Campbell,
Cupertino, San Jose, and Saratoga and the Town of Los Gatos to study the feasi ility of the Union
Pacific Railroad Trail; and
WHEREAS, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Union Pacif c Railroad Trail is
being proposed for adoption by the involved local agencies; and
WHEREAS, the MOU explains roles and responsibilities of the local agen ies involved in the
task force for the feasibility study; and
WHEREAS, the MOU states that cost of the feasibility study will not exceed $200,000; and
WHEREAS, the Valley Transportation Authority will contribute $160,000 ( 0%) and involved
local agencies will contribute $40,000 (20% local match) toward the cost of the feasi ility study; and
WHEREAS, the MOU calls for the City of Campbell to contribute a $2,000 ocal match toward
the cost of the feasibility study;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Campbell
hereby authorizes execution of a Memorandum of Understanding to study the feasi ility of developing
a Union Pacific Railroad Trail.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell hereby
authorizes the expenditure of $2,000 from the Fiscal Year 2000/2001 operating bud et toward the cost
of the feasibility study for the Trail.
