RESOLUTION NO. 9781
A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE
CLASSIFICATION AND SALARY PLAN
WHEREAS, the City Manager is required by Section 2.12.030 of the
Campbell Municipal Code to prepare and submit to the City Council
recommendations for the reorganization of offices, departments, and positions
which are considered to be in the best interest of efficient, effective and
economical conduct of the municipal services provided by the City; and
WHEREAS, a review has been conducted; and
WHEREAS, an amendment to the current Classification and Salary Plan
is needed to meet the requirements of Municipal Code Section 2.12.030.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Campbell does hereby approve the amended job description of Public Works
Superintendent (Exhibit A).

PUBLIC WORKS SUPERINTENDENT
DEFINITION
Under general direction of the Public Works Director, manages all functions of the Maintenance
Division of the Public Works Department; is also responsible for procurement of city vehicles and
equipment, special projects and coordination of other high level administrative and management
tasks as assigned.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Manages the City's Service Center and all activities of its employees; plans, organizes, directs,
administers and reports on maintenance activities, including: maintenance of streets, bicycle trails,
pedestrian pathways, traffic and street signs, pavement markings and striping, sidewalks, traffic
signals, street lights, parks, street tree, landscaped medians, civic grounds, and city vehicles and
equipment; analyzes, develops, budgets, procures and allocates resources; establishes division
goals and objectives and performance and workload standards; monitors divisional operations and
facilities to identify needs, priorities, opportunities, operational effectiveness, costs and productivity;
directs and administers the procurement, maintenance and replacement of City vehicles and
equipment; manages the storage, disbursement and use of related supplies and materials;
prepares and monitors division budgets; prepares written council reports and makes presentations
to the City Council; organizes and implements training and staff development programs; selects
and evaluates personnel; may serve as the department's liaison staff member to the Parks and
Recreation Commission; represents the Division to other commissions, City Council and the public;
and performs other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school. College course work in
Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management,
Business or Public Administration desirable. Six years of increasingly
responsible experience in public works or public administration, with at
least three years in a supervisory/managerial position.
Knowledge of: General principals of maintenance management; project and
construction management; maintenance and construction methods as
related to parks, street trees and street landscaping, pavement
maintenance, traffic signal maintenance and operations, street light
maintenance, fleet maintenance; budgeting and contract
administration; principles of personnel management and supervision;
related materials, vehicles, equipment, and work standards;
Ability to: Organize, plan, administer and manage a City-wide program of parks,
streets, traffic signal and street lighting maintenance and operations,
vehicle and equipment maintenance; interpret and implement policies,
regulations and procedures; supervise and motivate personnel;
communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; maintain
effective and cooperative working relationships with division staff,
other city departments, public officials and the general public.
Possession of: Valid California Driver's License.
