On December 23, 1986, you referred the attached material to me inquiring
of the status. Bill Helms has spoken to Mr. Hunt on the telephone and
discussed the issue.
The problems being experienced by the tenants will be resolved when the
driveway arrangement to this site and the Santa Clara Valley Water
District maintenance easement are consol idated. Bill wrote to SCVWD
12/22/86 requesting their comments concerning these modifications.
We will follow up on this and keep Mr. Hunt informed on progress.

Dear Mr. Hunt:
Thank you for the letter regarding your concerns about difficulties at the
Creekside Business Park, and for transmitting the tenant petition requesting
a new turning lane at this location.
As you are aware, the recently constructed median island on Bascom Avenue that
I imits turning movements along your frontage is within the City of San Jose
and was constructed at their direction. That island work was required as a
part of the offsite improvements in connection with the Greylands development
in the City of San Jose.
You may not be aware that at the time of the City of Campbel~ Planning Com-
mission's approval of the Creekside Business Mall in 1978, the developers of
your mall were advised that this median island would probably be installed
and that access to the site would then be limited to right turns only for
both ingress and egress.
In response to your concerns, however, the Campbell Public Works Department
staff is working with the City of San Jose staff to determine whether it
would be possible to make any changes that would improve access to the Creek-
side Business MalJ. It is anticipated that the staff study"will be ~eted
within the next three weeks and that you will be contacted shortly after~ 4r

Dear Mr. Duggan:
As you are probably aware, our 46,000 squre foot office
building located just off the corner of Hamilton Avenue
on South Bascom Avenue has recently been denied a north
bound left turn access lane into our parking lot. In
addition to that, the City of San Jose has recently install-
ed a no U turn sign down the street which requires our tenants
to drive quite a distance looking for a safe U turn area.
All of our tenants are extremely worried and upset about
the situation and hereby request that the City of Campbell
make an effort with the City of San Jose to provide a safe
and convenient access to Creekside Business Mall.
In addition to the above, the extremely busy Spoons
Restaurant which is located next door to us has the same
problem and concerns.
please find attached a petition signed by our tenants in
reference to the above matter.
Could you please look into this situation on all of our
behalf and let us know of your progress.

In 1978 permits were issued for the construction of the Creekside
Business Mall at 1475 South Bascom Avenue in the City of Campbell.
This development is located on the westerly side of Bascom Avenue
adjacent to the Los Gatos Creek.
In connection with the development, Permit No. 78352 was issued by
your office on November 20, 1978, for the installation of fencing
and gates to control access to the creek at this location, along
with some landscaping next to the District right-of-way. A 16-foot
driveway approach was constructed for District access in addition to
a 30-foot driveway approach in close proximity for access to the de-
ve 1 opment.
Because of recent median island construction along the frontage of
the development, it will be necessary to consol idate these driveway
approaches at the northern end of the site adjacent to the District
right-of-way in order to provide left-turn ingress and egress to the
site.

Dear Mr. Manley:
This letter is to confirm the decision you made with Wayne Tanda of
my staff regarding a median barrier on Bascom Avenue north of Hamilton
Avenue. We agree that a median island beginning at the existing median
on Bascom Avenue and extending north approximately one hundred feet
is appropriate and should be constructed by the party developing the
office/business property on the west side of Bascom Avenue within the
City of Campbell.
At the time the Ainsley property develops in San Jose, we will require
the developer to construct an appropriate median on Bascom Avenue be-
tween Hamilton Avenue and Southwest Expressway.

No permanent structures should be allowed within this channel
right of way area.
Proposed landscaping, as shown on the plans, is generally accept-
able with exception of the work to be done within the access ramp
area indicated on the enclosed marked plan.
In accordance with District Ordinance 75-6, the owner should show
any existing wel1(s) on the plans and inform us regarding their
proposed use. Please contact Mr. Zozaya on extension 379 for
information about well permits.
Because it can affect the operation and maintenance of the channel,
we request that grading adjacent to the right of way be done in
accordance with the enclosed Sheets 20-20B. The details of the
grading should include the cross-sectional view at the right of
way and should be shown on the improvement plans.
