RESOLUTION NO. 9663
A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE
CLASSIFICATION AND SALARY PLAN
WHEREAS, the City Manager is required by Section 2.12.030 of the Campbell
Municipal Code to prepare and submit to the City Council recommendations for the
reorganization of offices, departments, and positions which are considered to be in the best
interest of efficient, effective and economical conduct of the municipal services provided by
the City; and
WHEREAS, a review has been conducted; and
WHEREAS, an amendment to the current Classification and Salary Plan is needed to
meet the requirements of Municipal Code Section 2.12.030.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell
does hereby approve the new job description of Accounting Technician (Exhibit A).

ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN CLERK III
DEFINITION
Under direction, tG perform~ technical and complex difficult financial and paraprofessional
accounting and payroll clerical work; maintains insurance records; serves as a specialist in
one or more functional areas with a hiqh deqree of independence; and does related work
as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Is responsible for the preparation and processinq of the City's biweekly payroll; including
the computation and verification of data from source documents; assures compliance with
City, State and Federal requirements; maintains payroll related records including employee
benefits; Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) reports reconciliations; employee
insurances and related reconciliations; coordinates appropriate accounting reports '.'\lith
departments and analyzes budget variances; prepares statistical and governmental reports
as related to the City payroll, including PERS reports and tax reports; prepares State and
Federal payroll tax deposits and returns; maintains leave reports; controls accruals and
calculates values of accrued leave at end of fiscal year; processes and prepares payroll
data for computer input; prepares payroll journal entries and posts same to general ledger
accounts; operates computers, printers and other qeneral office data processing
equipment; assists in the development of data processing applications; analyzes computer
printout~ and prepares such data for reports as required; answers payroll questionnaires;
prepares 'I.'orkers' compensation analysis; may assist Accountant with routine accounting
duties; performs a variety of technical and difficult accountinq and budqetary transactions of
a paraprofessional nature; develops spreadsheets; prepares adiustina iournal entries and
posts same to qeneral ledqer accounts; assists with development of Comprehensive
Annual Financial Report and Annual Budaet documents; conducts routine audits of
budaetarv accounts and provides reports; maintains asset inventories; assists accountants
with a variety of projects; conducts routine and non-routine reconciliations of various
accounts; prepares a variety of financial reports for departmental use and performs other
duties as required.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience:
Knowledge of:
Graduation from high school and two years (60 units)
colleae level coursework with an emphasis in accountina
or related field; plus at least three years increasingly
responsible experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or
payroll processing (preferably In governmental
accounting operations); or two additional years of
accountinq or payroll experience may be substituted for
one year of colleqe. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
certification hiahly desirable. College level accounting
courses desirable.

payroll processina; financial mathematics and statistics;
basic auditina includina elements of internal control;
methods and practices of financial record keeping and
report preparation.
Ability to:

arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy; use
initiative and sound judqement; Qperate standard office
equipment including operating a terminal desktop and
network computer~ for data input, inquiry, and report
generation; and applications; prepare and maintain
accurate payroll and other confidential employee Gata
records; reconcile complex accountinq records; develop
and maintain effective working relationships with others;
and work independently with limited supervision.
Possession of:
Valid California Driver's License.
