A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR TO EXECUTE AN
AGREEMENT WITH BAY AREA STORE SERVICES FOR
SHOPPING CAR RETRIEVAL SERVICES
WHEREAS, the City adopted Ordinance 1991 in July 2000 determining that abandoned
shopping carts constitute a nuisance, create potential hazards to the health and safety of the
public, and interfere with pedestrian and vehicular traffic and are in need of abatement; and
WHEREAS, the City retained Scott Jr., as a sole source contractor, to retrieve carts at
substantial savings over the combined costs of both Police Department and Parks Maintenance
staff; and
WHEREAS, the Agreement with Scott Jr. expires February 28, 2003, and
WHEREAS, the company Scott Jr. has been sold and is now known as Bay Area Stores
Services; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to continue the collection of abandoned shopping carts and
Bay Area Stores Services, formerly known as Scott Jr., has provided satisfactory service for the
past year;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell
hereby authorizes the Public Works Director to execute an agreement with Bay Area Store
Services for shopping car retrieval services in an amount not to exceed $24,000 for one-year with
the option to renew such agreement for up to three additional one-year terms.
