RESOLUTION NO. 9646
BEING A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CAMPBELL HONORING JOANNA HERZ
AS 1999 CAMPBELL'S CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
WHEREAS, Joanna Herz has a long standing interest in local history and is a strong proponent
of historic preservation; and
WHEREAS, Joanna Herz was appointed to serve on the City's Historic Preservation Board in
1987, and was instrumental in the development of a 2000 calendar sponsored by the Historic
Preservation Board highlighting the historic buildings in downtown Campbell; and
WHEREAS, Joanna Herz has served on various regional committees including the County's
Heritage Commission, the Victorian Preservation Association of Santa Clara County and the
National Trust for Historic Preservation; and
WHEREAS, Joanna Herz has been a member of the Country Woman's Club since 1990,
served as President in 1995-96, and chaired their annual fundraising dinners to raise
scholarship funds for high school students; and
WHEREAS, Joanna Herz has organized several community events including the "Great
Gatsby" celebration in 1991 in downtown Campbell which included 20's and 30's costumes
and celebrations to benefit the Campbell Museum, and initiated the annual civic teas hosted by
the Historic Preservation Board to call attention to the history of the Campbell community; and
WHEREAS, Joanna Herz and her husband, Rudy, were honored with Campbell's
Beautification Award in 1991 for their historic home on White Oaks Road.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell
recognizes and honors Joanna Herz on being named 1999 Campbell's Citizen of the Year in
recognition of her many contributions to the community and dedication to historic
preservation.
