A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR TO SUBMIT
AN APPLICATION FOR SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL (SR2S)
FUNDS FOR THE HARRIET AVENUE/MCCOY AVENUE BICYCLE AND
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY PROJECT
WHEREAS, the Harriet Avenue/McCoy Avenue Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Project
involves the installation of in-pavement lights in the existing crosswalk across the south leg of
Harriet Avenue at McCoy Avenue, curb ramps along both Harriet Avenue and McCoy Avenue,
sidewalk widening on the east side of Harriet Avenue, and radar speed feedback signs along
Harriet Avenue, McCoy Avenue, and San Tomas Aquino Road; and
WHEREAS, the preliminary cost estimate is $290,000 for the project; and
WHEREAS, the Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S) grant program is a federally-funded
program administered by Caltrans to encourage construction of bicycle and pedestrian safety
and traffic calming projects; and
WHEREAS, the Project would encourage walking and bicycling near schools and is
therefore eligible for SR2S funding; and
WHEREAS, the ability to obtain SR2S funding approval is enhanced by endorsement of
the project by elected officials, school officials, and police departments; and
WHEREAS, the SR2S grant program requires a ten percent local match of $29,000 for
the City of Campbell.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Campbell
that the Public Works Director is hereby authorized to execute and file a Safe Routes to Schools
grant application for funding under the Safe Routes to Schools Grant Program in the amount of
$290,000 for the Harriet Avenue/McCoy Avenue Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Campbell will provide $29,000 in local
funds should the Safe Route to Schools Grant be awarded to the City of Campbell.
