OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
ENDORSING THE NATIONAL "LET'S MOVE!" CAMPAIGN
WHEREAS, the City of Campbell recognizes that there is an obesity epidemic among
California's children and adults; and
WHEREAS, the City of Campbell supports policies, programs and activities that promote
health and wellness, continuing education and healthier lifestyles; and
WHEREAS, the City of Campbell wishes to promote healthy lifestyles by creating a
walkable community, promoting youth, adult and senior activities, reducing the sale of junk
food in City facilities, and providing no-cost exercise facilities and opportunities for
residents; and
WHEREAS, City officials believe there are important, long-term community benefits to be
gained by encouraging healthy lifestyles, including a decrease in the rate of childhood
obesity and its negative health-related impacts; and
WHEREAS, cities and other community partners can work together to ensure that there
are safe places for their residents to be active; and
WHEREAS, access to healthy foods has a direct impact on the overall health of our
community and providing opportunities for access to fresh food, open space, sidewalks
and parks should be a priority; and
WHEREAS, the City wishes to partner with the League of California Cities and the Healthy
Eating Active Living Cities Campaign and support the National "Let's Move!" campaign in
an effort to solve the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Campbell supports the National
"Let's Move!" campaign; shall register with the United States Department of Health and
Human Services as a "Let's Move!" city; will incorporate education on nutrition and healthy
eating, and the importance of activity, exercise and fitness into recreational classes,
programs and brochures; and make every effort to provide access to healthy and
affordable foods and a pedestrian friendly community.
