CC Resolution 11249RESOLUTION NO. 11249 A RESOLUTION OF THE CAMPBELL CITY COUNCIL HONORING DANIEL FURTADO FOR HIS YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITY WHEREAS, on December 7, 2010, Councilmember and former Mayor Daniel Furtado attended his last City Council meeting after 25 years of dedicated service to the City; WHEREAS, Dan Furtado was first appointed to the Civic Improvement Commission in 1985 where he served for 10 years before being elected to the Campbell City Council in 1996 and served as the City's Mayor in 1999, 2003 and 2007; WHEREAS, Furtado has served as a Council liaison for two City foundations, and served on the boards of the League of California Cities, National League of Cities, Association of Bay Area Governments, West Valley Sanitation District and the Santa Clara County Library system; and WHEREAS, Dan Furtado was selected as the Campbell Chamber of Commerce's "Citizen of the Year" i n 2000; WHEREAS, a champion of and spokesperson for, the American Heart Association, Dan was a dedicated volunteer for the organization for 30 years and served on its Board of Directors and President of the Santa Clara County Chapter, and also taught safety courses in Basic and Advanced CPR; WHEREAS, in addition to serving his city, Dan also served his country by serving in the U.S. Army in both active duty status and as an officer reservist, and retired at the rank of Colonel after more than 40 years in the Army Reserves; WHEREAS, Dan is an avid runner and has participated in the annual Special Olympics' Torch Run, Campbell's annual Valentine Fun Run and has also qualified for, and successfully completed, the coveted Boston Marathon; WHEREAS, Dan Furtado holds a Bachelor's degree from San Jose State University, a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco and a Doctorate in Pharmacy from the University of California, San Francisco. NOW, THEREFORE, BE ITRESOLVEDthat the City Council and staff of the City of Campbell express their deepest appreciation to Dan Furtado for his years of public service to the residents, businesses, and visitors of the City of Campbell, and wish him well in the next phase of his life.
