RESOLUTION NO. 9497
BEING A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL HONORING
DONALD R BURR AS 1998 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
WHEREAS, Donald R. Burr has been selected by the Campbell Chamber of Commerce as 1998
Citizen of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Donald R. Burr began his career with the Campbell Police Department in October,
1956, and rose through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain, before being named Police
Chief in 1972; and
WHEREAS, upon retiring from the Campbell Police Department in 1987 after thirty one years of
service, Donald R. Burr continued his service to the community as an elected City Councilmember;
and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as City Councilmember, Donald R. Burr served as Mayor in 1992
and 1995, and saw the successful completion of several projects including the acquisition of the San
Tomas School site and development of Jack Fischer Park; the purchase of the Winchester Drive-in
site; the development of Hyde Park; and the Downtown Streetscape Project; and
WHEREAS, Donald R. Burr served as a City Councilmember for two terms until stepping down in
December, 1996; and
WHEREAS, Donald R. Burr has exhibited a high degree of public responsibility and served the
citizens of Campbell with commitment and dedication.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell recognizes
and honors Donald R. Burr on being named 1998 Campbell's Citizen of the Year in recognition of
his unselfish service to the Campbell community and his continued involvement in community,
business and governmental affairs.
