RESOLUTION NO. 9492
BEING A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CAMPBELL COMMENDING BARBARA D. CONANT FOR
TEN YEARS OF SERVICE ON THE CAMPBELL CITY COUNCIL
WHEREAS, Barbara D. Conant was first appointed to the Campbell City Council in September, 1988
to fill the unexpired term of Ralph Doetsch, and was subsequently elected by the Campbell voters in a
Special Election in March, 1989; and
WHEREAS, during her ten years of service as City Councilmember, Barbara D. Conant served as
Mayor in 1993 and again in 1997; and
WHEREAS, Barbara D. Conant fulfilled numerous committee assignments during her tenure on the
City Council including representing the City of Campbell on the County Library District JP A; the
Vasona Corridor Joint Policy Advisory Board; Valley Transportation Policy Advisory Board; West
Valley Mayors and Managers; and West Valley Sanitation District; and
WHEREAS, some of the projects that were completed during Councilmember Barbara D. Conant's
tenure include the acquisition of a portion of the San Tomas School site and development of Jack
Fischer Park; the purchase of the Winchester Drive-in site; numerous improvements at the Campbell
Community Center; the development of Hyde Park; the Downtown Streetscape Project; the City Hall
Accessibility Project; the relocation and opening of the Ainsley House and Gardens; the renovation of
the Pruneyard Shopping Center; and the annual "Summer Concert Series" at Orchard City Green; and
WHEREAS, Barbara D. Conant was born and raised in Campbell, and has been a life-long community
volunteer including 15 years of service as a Civic Improvement Commissioner prior to becoming a City
Councilmember; and
WHEREAS, Barbara D. Conant was a teacher for 41 years with the Campbell Union School District
prior to her retirement in January, 1999; and
WHEREAS, Barbara D. Conant has exhibited a high degree of public responsibility and served the
citizens of Campbell with commitment, dedication and integrity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell does hereby
commend and honor Barbara D. Conant for her ten years of service as a City Councilmember and her
many contributions to the Campbell community.
