RESOLUTION NO. 9339
BEING A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CAMPBELL CONGRATULATING THE SANTA CLARA V ALLEY WATER DISTRICT
ON 30 YEARS OF SERVICE AS AN INTEGRATED WATER RESOURCE AGENCY
WHEREAS, the Santa Clara Valley Water Conservation District was founded in 1929 to serve the
water supply needs of valley residents; and
WHEREAS, between 1929 and 1968 the water conservation district constructed eight reservoirs,
pioneered a system of groundwater recharge to prevent land subsidence, and constructed a state-of-the-
art drinking water treatment plant; and
WHEREAS, the Santa Clara County Flood Control and Water Conservation District began work in
1955 to protect fast growing urban areas from the threat of flooding and to supplement other water
supply efforts; and
WHEREAS, between 1955 and 1968 the flood control district initiated planning efforts for flood
protection projects, maintained creeks to carry stormwater away from homes and businesses, and
successfully negotiated with state and federal officials for delivery of imported water supplies; and
WHEREAS, the two agencies were joined in March 1968 to become a single consolidated agency
responsible for water resource management for the residents of Santa Clara County; and
WHEREAS, for the past 30 years the water district has overseen the operation of ten drinking water
reservoirs, 20 groundwater recharge ponds, three drinking water treatment plants, a sophisticated
delivery system for imported water and 700 miles of creeks and streams for the purpose of ensuring the
water supply, water quality and flood protection needs of Silicon Valley.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell hereby
congratulates the Board of Directors and employees of the Santa Clara Valley Water District on 30
years of public service.
