CC Resolution 9335 RESOLUTION NO. 9335 BEING A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL HONORING GEORGENE LLOYD BOWEN AS CAMPBELL'S 1997 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR WHEREAS, Georgene Lloyd Bowen and Geraldine Lloyd Hicks are the granddaughters of J. C. Ainsley, a business pioneer who operated one of the finest canneries in California; and WHEREAS, in the 1920's, J. C. Ainsley built a home on the comer of Bascom and Hamilton Avenue, which became the showpiece of the Campbell area; and WHEREAS, Georgene Lloyd Bowen grew up "in the shadow" of the Ainsley House and has fond memories of a carefree childhood; and WHEREAS, Georgene Lloyd Bowen married David Bowen and raised three children Gwen, Gayle and Bruce; and WHEREAS, in 1988, the idea of donating the Ainsley House to the City of Campbell was first discussed between Geraldine Hicks and Jeanette Watson, with the total support of Georgene Bowen; and WHEREAS, skeptics doubted the house could be moved; and WHEREAS, on November 18, 1990, while crowds of supporters and curious onlookers lined the streets of Campbell, the historic two-story home was moved to its permanent location between City Hall and the Library, and serves as the community's historic house museum; and WHEREAS, the Campbell Chamber of Commerce has selected Georgene Lloyd Bowen and her sister, Geraldine Lloyd Hicks, as 1997 Citizens of the Year, in honor of their generous donation to the City of Campbell and will be recognized at the Chamber's Annual Dinner on February 28, 1998. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell recognize and honor Georgene Lloyd Bowen on being named 1997 Campbell Citizen of the Year in recognition of not only her generous donation of the Ainsley House to the City of Campbell, but for her continuing support of the Campbell community.
