CC Resolution 8922 RESOLUTION NO. 8922 A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION AND SALARY PLAN WHEREAS, the City Manager is required by Section 2.12.030 of the Campbell Municipal Code to prepare and submit to the City Council recommendations for the reorganization of offices, departments, and positions which are considered to be in the best interest of efficient, effective, and economical conduct of the municipal services provided by the City; and WHEREAS, a review has been conducted; and WHEREAS, an amendment to the current Classification and Salary Plan is needed to meet the requirements of Municipal Code Section 2.12.030. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell does hereby approve the revised job description for the position of Building Inspector as shown on the attached Exhibit A. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 2nd day of January, 1996 by the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmembers: Burr, Conant, Watson, Dougherty NOES: Council members: None ABSENT: Council members: None APPROVED: 7 / / /y,~~r ATTEST: t2~ A/~ Anne Bybee, City Clerk EXHIBIT A CITY OF CAMPBELL BUILDING INSPECTOR DEFINITION Under general supervision, to inspect buildings and structures in all stages of construction, alteration and repair; to review building plans and specifications; to enforce building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and housing codes, and state laws; to assist with inspection of City building projects; to issue permits and compute fees; and to do related work as required. TYPICAL DUTIES Makes combination field inspections of building construction, plumbing, mechanical, electrical installations, and state codes, in residential, business or public buildings to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations; may conduct final inspections of completed work giving approval to acceptable structures and installations; investigates violations of building and housing laws; as assigned, spot-checks new construction projects for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances; checks plans and specifications for completeness and accuracy; issues permits and computes fees; coordinates with other City departments, public agencies and private construction organizations; gives information to the public regarding all phases of building construction and related fields. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school plus two years of experience as a building inspector employed by a municipal or county building deparlment. (Three years of continuous work in the building trades may be substituted for one year of the required experience; however, experience as a building inspector is preferred.) In addition, certification as a Building Inspector is required. Acceptable certificates are: ICBO Building Inspector Certificate; or a Certificate or AA degree in Building Construction Technology from an accredited college. Knowledge of: Construction procedures. tools and materials, accepted safety standards, general provisions of the Uniform Building, National Electrical, Uniform Plumbing, Uniform Mechanical Codes, and various Federal, State and local codes. Ability to: Learn specific provisions of applicable codes, ordinances and regulations enforced by the City, especially those pertaining to structural, plumbing, mechanical and electrical construction and installation; perform building rehab inspections including technical specifications and report writing; apply technical knowledge of building trades work, and use sound inspection methods to examine workmanship and materials, and to detect deviations from plans, specifications and standard installation practices; read and interpret diagrams, plans and specifications; make arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately; maintain cooperative working relationships with engineers, architects, contractors and general public.
