CC Resolution 11376 RESOLUTION NO. 11376 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL AUTHORIZING THE CITY ENGINEER TO SUBMIT A SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL GRANT APPLICATION FOR THE LEIGH AVENUE SIDEWALK INFILL PROJECT WHEREAS, the City of San Jose was awarded approximately $280,000 in federal Vehicle Emissions Reductions Based at School (VERBS) grant funds for the Leigh Avenue/Dry Creek Intersection Improvement Project; and WHEREAS, the City of San Jose Leigh Avenue/Dry Creek Road Intersection Improvement Project would address pedestrian access needs of Campbell students who walk to Bagby Elementary School in San Jose via the Leigh Avenue/Dry Creek intersection; and WHEREAS, the Leigh Avenue Sidewalk Infill Project includes the design and construction of new sidewalk, curb, gutter, and curb ramp on the west side of Leigh Avenue between Dry Creek Road and Bent Drive; and WHEREAS, this work is not included in the project scope of San Jose's Leigh Avenue/Dry Creek Intersection Improvement Project; and WHEREAS, the Leigh Avenue Sidewalk Infill Project would encourage walking and is therefore eligible for SR2S funding; and WHEREAS, the SR2S grant program is a state-funded program administered by Caltrans to encourage construction of pedestrian safety projects; and WHEREAS, the Leigh Avenue Sidewalk Infill Project is estimated to cost $60,000 to design and construct; and WHEREAS, the SR2S grant program requires a ten-percent local match for the City of Campbell; and WHEREAS, a total of $6,000 would be required in Campbell local match funds; and WHEREAS, potential sources include the City's Bicycle/Pedestrian Traffic Safety Projects, CIP reserves, or construction tax funds. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Campbell that the City Engineer is hereby authorized to submit a State Safe Routes to School grant application for the Leigh Avenue Sidewalk Infill Project. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Campbell will provide $6,000 in local funds should the State Safe Routes to School Grant be awarded to the City of Campbell.
