RFSOLUTION NO. 8628
A RFSOLUTION AMENDING THE
CLASSIFICATION AND SALARY PLAN
WHEREAS, the City Manager is required by Section 2.12.030 of the Campbell
Municipal Code to prepare and submit to the City Council recommendations for the
reorganization of offices, departments, and positions which are considered to be in the best
interest of efficient, effective, and economical conduct of the municipal services provided by the
City; and
WHEREAS, a review has been conducted; and
WHEREAS, an amendment to the current Classification and Salary Plan is needed
to meet the requirements of Municipal Code Section 2.12.030.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RFSOL VED that the City Council of the City of
Campbell does hereby approve the revised job description for the position of Traffic Engineer
as shown on the attached Exhibit A.

EXHIBIT A
Under general direction, plans, assigns, supervises, directs, accomplishes and IeViews the
activities of the Traffic EngineeringlTransportation Division of the Public Works Department.
TYPICAL DlmR~
As the program manager of a specia1i7ed division, has management responsibility for major
transportation engineering, planning and operations functions; directs transportation planning
studies, including consultation with citizens' groups and outside agencies; assists in developing
policies and programs on traffic operations; supports the City Engineer in the development and
review of standards for design and construction of traffic Signal systems, roadway markings,
channelization, signing and lighting systems; directs the operation of the City's traffic control
systems; supports policy makers in regional transportation studies and programs by participation
in the technical advisory process; prepares traffic impact studies for City projects and reviews
traffic impact studies submitted in support of development applications and recommends
appropriate mitigation measures; may attend and make presentations at City Council and
Planning Commission meetings; directs and participates in the collection, tabulation and analysis
of traffic and transportation monitoring data; coordinates City transportation activities with other
jurisdictions; manages neighborhood traffic studies and mitigation programs and coordinates with
the Police Department on neighborhood and school related traffic issues; initiates traffic work
orders and manages traffic service requests; prepares grant applications; prepares budget
recommendations for the Transportation Division; trains and supervises staff engineers,
technicians and assistants; makes written, visual and oral presentations; performs other related
duties as required.
E:MPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience:
Knowledge of:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering plus four years
professional traffic/transportation engineering experience at a
supervisory or management level. Registration as a
Professional Engineer in Civil or Traffic Engineering in the
State of California is required; a Master's degree in Traffic or
Transportation is highly desirable.
Principals and practices of traffic and transportation
engineering; pertinent federal, state and local regulatory codes
and ordinances; computer programs such as TRANSYT 7F,
PASSER IT, or similar modelling software; capacity applications
such as CAPSSI, NCAP or HCS; GIS and AutoCAD
transportation applications, spreadsheets, database applications
and typical word processing programs; traffic signal design and
operation including actuated, interconnected systems;
transportation planning and roadway and lighting design; and
knowledge of mathematical and statistical methods as used in
transportation engineering and planning.

Valid California Driver's License. .
Registration as a Professional Engineer in Civil or
