A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE
CLASSIFICATION AND SALARY PLAN
WHEREAS, the City Manager is required by Section 2.12.030 of the Campbell
Municipal Code to prepare and submit to the City Council recommendations for the
reorganization of offices, departments, and positions which are considered to be in
the best interest of efficient, effective, and economical conduct of the municipal
services provided by the City and;
WHEREAS, a review has been conducted; and
WHEREAS, an amendment to the current Classification and Salary Plan is needed
to meet the requirements of Municipal Code Section 2.12.030.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Campbell does hereby approve the revised job descriptions for the positions of Park
Maintenance Lead Worker (Exhibit A), Street Maintenance Lead Worker (Exhibit B) ,
Park Maintenance Supervisor (Exhibit C), and Street Maintenance Supervisor
(Exhibit D).

PARK MAINTENANCE LEAD WORKER
DEFINITION
Under general superVlSlon, assigns and supervises the work of and
participates with personnel engaged in the maintenance, repair and upkeep
of parks, park and recreational facilities, and street trees; performs
skilled park maintenance work; monitors on a daily basis the condition of
assigned areas; and does related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Receives and implements work plans and makes assignments in order to
provide for the continuing maintenance and upkeep of parks, park and
recreational facilities, and street trees; supervises a park crew and
participates in a wide variety of tasks including general landscaping,
tree removal and planting, tree surgery, pruning, watering and spraying,
care and maintenance of shrubs and turf, and prevention, detection and
treatment of plant diseases and insect pests; operates, maintains and
repairs irrigation systems; trains personnel in proper care and use of
park maintenance equipment and tools; inspects park grounds maintenance
and/or park facilities and street trees on an ongoing basis including
street tree and custodial work performed by contract personnel; maintains
daily records and prepares maintenance schedules and routine reports;
investigates complaints, and deals regularly with the general public;
evaluates the performance of assigned employees; may be required to work
weekends and holidays; and performs other related duties as required.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Four years of responsible experience in tree
and parks maintenance work. Related college
course work and supervisory experience highly
desirable.
Knowledge of: Methods, tools, materials and equipment used in
all phases of groundskeeping and general park
maintenance work; knowledge of disease and
insect pests and methods of control; irrigation
systems, equipment, and controllers; basic
supervisory principles and safe work practices.

STREET MAINTENANCE LEAD WORKER
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, assigns and supervises the work of and
participates with personnel engaged in the maintenance, repair and upkeep
of streets, storm sewers, traffic control devices, and related facilities;
performs skilled maintenance work and monitors, on a daily basis, the
condition of assigned areas; and does related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Receives and implements work plans and makes assignments in order to
provide for the continuing maintenance and upkeep of streets, storm
drains, traffic control and informational devices, and related facilities;
provides direct supervision of a work crew and participates in a variety
of tasks including traffic sign and legend repair and installation, sign
fabrication, street and sidewalk removal, repair and reconstruction,
street sanitation and storm sewer maintenance; estimates and orders
materials for routine repairs, per Division policy; operates, maintains
and trains others in the operation of construction equipment including
rollers and asphalt breakers, airless and air operated paint machines, air
compressors, dump trucks, backhoes/front-end loaders, street sweepers and
generators; monitors the condition of streets and storm sewers on an
ongoing basis; monitors routine work performed by contractors; maintains
daily records and prepares maintenance schedules and routine reports;
investigates complaints and deals regularly with the general public;
evaluates the performance of assigned staff; may be required to work
weekends and holidays; performs other related duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Four years of responsible experience in related
public works maintenance and/or directly
related construction or maintenance
experience. Supervisory experience highly
desirable.
Knowledge of: Methods, tools, materials and equipment used in

maintenance; basic supervisory principles and
safe work practices; techniques of safe and
effective traffic control; materials used in
construction and maintenance of streets, storm
sewers and traffic control devices.

DEFINITION
Under direction, manages all parks, public facilities ground maintenance
and street landscaping programs; and performs related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Manages the Park Maintenance Section of the Public Works Department
Maintenance Division; plans, organizes, assigns, supervises and evaluates
work of the Section in collaboration with the Division Manager; assists in
the selection and promotion of staff; supervises and trains staff in the
Park Maintenance section; administers landscape and janitorial maintenance
contracts; evaluates and reports on the performance of section staff and
outside contractors; monitors the condition of park and recreation
facilities; assists in preparation and administration of section budget;
investigates complaints from the public and recommends corrective action;
serves as a resource for horticultural and pesticide control matters;
prepares reports and maintains records and other performance information;
and performs other related duties as required.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
College level training in a related field is
desirable. Five years of increasingly
responsible experience in parks and tree
maintenance, including at least three years of
experience in a supervisory capacity.
Knowledge of: Principles and practices of parks/landscape
maintenance operations; methods, materials,
equipment, and tools used in park and tree
maintenance; planting and cultivation of trees,
plants, and turf; pests and diseases and
methods and materials for their control;
principles of management and supervision; safe
work practices.
Ability to: Effectively manage park maintenance programs;
supervise personnel; establish and maintain
effective working relationships including
working with citizen committees as required;
prepare reports and maintain records; read and
interpret work plans and blueprints;
communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Possession of: Valid California Driver's License.
State of California Agricultural Pest Control
Advisor License desirable.

DEFINITION
Under direction manages, all right of way maintenance activities of the
Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department, excluding landscaping
and performs related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Manages the Street Maintenance Section of the Public Works Maintenance
Division; plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, evaluates and reports on
the maintenance and construction of surface and subsurface improvements on
street right-of-ways including streets, sidewalks, storm sewers, traffic
control devices and related facilities; assists in selection and promotion
of staff; estimates and orders materials; prepares and assigns all
personnel by providing oral or written instructions; inspects work in
progress and upon completion prepares necessary reports pertaining to
operations; supervises the use of equipment; assists with preparation and
administration of Street Maintenance Section Budget; maintains time and
material records and other performance information; supervises a variety
of other general maintenance work as required.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education & Experience:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
College and/or post secondary training in a
related field is highly desirable. Five years
of increasingly responsible experience in right
of way maintenance - three of which must have
been at a responsible supervisory level.
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of street construction
and maintenance operations; sidewalk
construction and repair, storm sewer
maintenance, and traffic control device
maintenance and installation; materials and
equipment pertinent to surface and subsurface
right of way maintenance; principles of
supervision; safe work practices.
