RESOLUTION NO. 8396
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE TRANSFER OF
MOFFETT FIELD TO NASA AMES RESEARCH CENTER
AND OPPOSING EFFORTS TO MAKE MOFFETT FIELD
A RELIEVER AIRPORT FOR SAN JOSE INTERNATIONAL
WHEREAS,
Moffett Field
and
Congress has acknowledged the importance of retaining
in the federal realm under NASA Ames Research Center;
WHEREAS, Moffett Field is needed to serve other defense needs
and represents a unique aerospace and high-technology resource of
importance to Silicon Valley, including the City of Campbell; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Jose has proposed that it operate
Moffett Field, including relocation of general aviation activities
now located in San Jose to Moffett; and
WHEREAS, converting Moffett Field to a reliever airport for
San Jose International could have serious impacts on key industries;
and
WHEREAS, San Jose's efforts regarding Moffett are
contradictory to the policies of cities adjacent to Moffett;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Campbell supports the transfer of Moffett Field to NASA Ames
Research Center, and opposes efforts to make Moffett Field a
reliever airport for San Jose International, and efforts to close
Reid-Hillview Airport and to relocate general aviation operations
from airports in San Jose to Moffett.
