RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF
RETAINING MOFFETT FIELD AS A FEDERAL
JOINT USE FACILITY UNDER THE CONTROL OF
NASA AMES RESEARCH CENTER OR ANOTHER DEFERAL ENTITY
WHEREAS, the Moffett Field complex, which currently includes the Naval Air
Station, NASA Ames Research Center, other Department of Defense tenants, and
nearby high technology and aerospace industries, represents a vital and
unique national asset; and
WHEREAS, the aerospace industry is one of the few remaining strategically
important industries where the U.S. continues to dominate; and
WHEREAS, the national, as well as the local economy, would suffer a negative
impact in this industry without a tightly controlled Moffett Airfield; and
WHEREAS, in addition to NASA's research and development activities,
Lockheed, ESL, GTE and others are dependent upon the Moffett Airfield to
provide services to NASA and the Department of Defense; and
WHEREAS, transfer to [dASA or another federal entity under a joint use
facility plan will continue secure airfield access which is integral to the
industryresearch and production core that contributes to the economic
health of Silicon Valley;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
desires that Moffett Field remain as a Naval Air Force Base but if closed
by the Department of Defense supports the retention of Moffett Airfield
as a federal joint use facility under the control of NASA Ames Research
Center or another federal entity.
