A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE
CLASSIFICATION AND SALARY PLAN
WHEREAS, the City Manager is required by Section 2.12.030 of the Campbell
Municipal Code to prepare and submit to the City Council recommendations for
the reorganization of offices, departments, and positions which are considered
to be in the best interest of efficient, effective, and economical conduct of
the municipal services provided by the City; and
WHEREAS, a review has been conducted; and
WHEREAS, an amendment to the current Classification and Salary Plan is
needed to meet the requirements of Municipal Code Section 2.12.030.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Campbell does hereby approve the revised job specification for Senior Planner
(as described on Exhibit A), revised salary range for Senior Planner (Range
1864) effective January 7, 1991, reclassification of the Principal Clerk
position to Clerk-Typist, reclassification of the Principal Planner position to
Planner II and the revised job specification for Planner II (as described on
Exhibit B).

SENIOR PLANNER
NRFTNTTTON
Under general direction of the Planning Director, performs difficult and
responsible City planning and administrative work; conducts or coordinates
major studies, projects or programs; is responsible for major functional
areas as assigned; and does related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Supervises subordinate professional, technical and clerical personnel;
serves as liaison to committees and public groups, and attends City
Council, Planning Commission, and other related meetings as required;
provides information to the public on planning, zoning and subdivision
matters and interprets laws and policies for other City employees and the
public as necessary; may serve as a division head for long-range or
current planning program meets with and advises property owners and
developers on a variety of planning matters; updates the General Plan and
other related documents; oversees data collection analysis for reports and
studies, and conducts field inspections; prepares zoning amendments and
environmental impact studies; and performs other duties as required.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: Graduation from a recognized university or
college with a degree in Planning or closely
related field, plus four years of increasingly
responsible professional planning experience (a
Master's degree in City Planning may be
substituted for one year of experience).
Knowledge of: Principles and practices of city planning and
design, including an understanding of the
fundamentals of economics, municipal finance,
sociology, engineering and urban design.
Ability to: Organize, supervise, and carry out complex
research projects and present results
effectively in written and graphic form as well
as orally; work effectively with City
officials, architects, developers and
contractors, and other agencies and the general
public.
Possession of: Valid California Driver's License.
Possession of AICP Professional Planner
Certificate is highly desirable.

CITY OF CAMPBELL
PLANNER II
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, performs professional planning duties in
advanced and current planning projects and programs.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Assists in all phases of the planning function including field
investigations and preparation of planning reports to the Planning
Commission and City Council; conducts studies and prepares reports related
to mid-range and long range planning studies and prepares reports to
boards and commissions; may be responsible for a planning project or
functional program area, such as current planning application processing
and coordination, census coordination, or ordinance preparation; may be
assigned as staff liaison to a board, committee or commission; and
performs other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited university or
college with a degree in planning or a related
field and two years of experience in city
planning (a masters degree in city planning may
be substituted for one year of experience).
Knowledge of: Planning concepts and practices, urban design
principles, zoning and general planning
principles, environmental review processes, and
planning legislation.
Ability to: Conduct independent research and report
preparation; accurately interpret planning and
zoning maps, aerial photos, architectural
design plans and precise construction drawings;
work effectively with City officials, other
City departments, project applicants,
designers, developers, property owners, other
agencies and the general public.
Possession of: Valid California Driver's License. Membership
in the American Planning Association is
desirable.
