A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE
CLASSIFICATION AND SALARY PLAN
WHEREAS, the City Manager is required by Section 2.12.030 of the
Campbell Municipal Code to prepare and submit to the City Council
recommendations for the reorganization of offices, departments, and
positions which are considered to be in the best interest of efficient,
effective, and economical conduct of the municipal services provided by
the City; and
WHEREAS, a review has been conducted; and
WHEREAS, an amendment to the current Classification and Salary Plan is
needed to meet the requirements of Municipal Code Section 2.12.030.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Campbell does hereby approve the replacement of the permanent half-time
Clerk-Typist position with a permanent full-time Clerk-Typist in the
Recreation and Community Services Department, and the revised job
descriptions for Building Inspector (see attached Exhibit A) and Mechanic
II (see attached Exhibit B).
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 5th day of November 1990 by the

CITY OF CAMPBELL
BUILDING INSPECTOR
Under general supervision, to inspect buildings and structures in all
stages of construction, alteration and repair; to assist in the review of
building plans and specifications; to enforce building, plumbing,
electrical, mechanical and housing codes, and state laws; to assist with
inspection of City building projects; to issue permits and compute fees;
and to do related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Makes field inspections of building construction, plumbing, mechanical,
electrical installations, and state codes, in residential, business or
public buildings to insure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances
and regulations; may conduct final inspections of completed work giving
approval to acceptable structures and installations; investigates
violations of building and housing laws; as assigned, spot-checks new
construction projects for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances;
checks plans and specifications for completeness and accuracy; issues
permits and computes fees; coordinates with other City departments, public
agencies and private construction organizations; gives information to the
public regarding all phases of building construction and related fields.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school plus
a certificate of completion for a construction
technology course, or high school and a
certificate of completion from a four-year
construction apprenticeship training program .
Two years of governmental building inspection
experience. (Experience in one of the
construction trades may substitute for the
building inspection experience on a ratio of
four years trade experience for one year
building inspection experience.)
Knowledge of: Construction procedures, tools and materials,
accepted safety standards, general provisions
of the Uniform Building, National Electrical,
Uniform Plumbing, Uniform Mechanical Codes, and
applicable Federal, State and local codes.

MECHANIC II
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, performs journey-level work in the inspection,
service and repair of a variety of automotive and mechanical equipment;
and to do related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Services and repairs cars, trucks, street sweepers, tractors, air
compressors, cement mixers, loaders and other automotive equipment; makes
minor adjustments to shock absorbers; repairs transmissions; adjusts
clutches; checks and balances wheels for proper wheel alignment; changes
and charges batteries; fixes lights; adjusts and relines brakes;
straightens fenders and dents; overhauls and tests generators; tunes up
motors using testing equipment; inspects tires and other auto parts; makes
emergency field repairs; keeps records; makes reports; uses independent
judgment as to method of repair after receiving a complaint with respect
to the operating condition of a given piece of equipment; assists in
cleanup of shop areas.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade,
preferably supplemented by directly related
technical courses, plus three years of
journey-level experience. One year of directly
related post-secondary course work may be
substituted for one year of the experience
requirement.
Knowledge of: The standard practices, methods, tools, and
equipment of the trade; the principles of
gasoline and diesel engines; the hazards and
safety precautions of the trade.
Ability to: Perform journey-level work involving the
service and repair of automotive and mechanical
equipment; demonstrate skill in the use of
tools and equipment employed in motor repair
and adjustments, and in locating and adjusting
defects in motorized equipment; work
independently.
Possession of: Valid California Driver's License.
